Project Monitoring in ARMM - Day One

Together with my Division Chief, we were tasked to inspect several School Buildings on February 23 to 26, 2012 in the Province of Lanao del Sur which has a distance of 163.48 kms. away from Koronadal City.  Lanao del Sur is one of the four provinces of ARMM which borders Lanao del Norte on the north, Bukidnon to the east, and Maguindanao and Cotabato to the south.  To the southwest lies the Illana Bay, an arm of the Moro Gulf.  Its landscape is dominated by rolling hills and valleys, calm rivers and lakes.  In fact, found in its interior is the Lanao Lake. 

The most popular place in the said province is its capital the Islamic City of Marawi where we stayed during the entire duration of the project inspections.  The city is also called the Summer Capital of the South because of its higher elevation and cooler climate.

The Schools we visited were the: 1) Sultan Aguam CES, Basak PS, Datu Macaagir Sarip Memorial NHS and Tabuan PS (Lumbac), all from the municipality of Ganassi, a 1st class municipality with a distance of 28.8 kms. away from Marawi City; 2) Linindingan CES at Pagayawan (formerly Tatariken), a 5th class municipality with a distance of 35.8 kms. from Marawi City; 3) Sultan Mangalampa Daing NHS at Balabagan, a 4th class municipality with a distance of 55.7 kms. from Marawi City; 4) Tubok NHS at Malabang (my hometown), also a 4th class municipality with a distance of 47.9 kms. from Marawi City; and 5) Mauyag C. Papandayan NHS at Bayang, also a 5th class municipality with a distance of 25.9 kms. from Marawi City.

Baya Mountain is a 4,530 ft / 1,381 m mountain peak near Ganassi, it ranks as the 4th highest mountain in Lanao del Sur and the 295th highest mountain in the Philippines . . .

We traveled around Lake Lanao in going to Bayang Municipality ...

Lake Lanao (Maranao: Ranao or Ranaw) is a large lake in Lanao del Sur with a surface area of 340 km². (131 square miles).  It is the largest lake in Mindanao, the second largest lake in the Philippines and counted as one of the 15 ancient lakes in the world.
